Group Proposal Reflection

Working with others is a necessary skill for anyone looking to succeed in their careers. I believe I work well with others, but I admit this was the first time I attempted to do this kind of paper. Of course, there were some aspects of this paper I found easier than others and some harder. For example, some ideas aren’t always communicated well within others in a group and this seemed to be an even bigger problem since we had to communicate online. In-person explanations are visually easier to break apart. But, this was not the case online where at first we had trouble brainstorming what exactly our technical description should be about, and further discussion on whose idea is the best. Luckily we were all able to decide on a topic, which happened to be the development of the removal of electronic noise. We then proceeded to split the work between all four of us, where each of us had a task to do. By doing this it helped to increase efficiency and also decreases confusion as to what each individual should be doing. Not only do I believe that this project will help me in the future, but I also believe it will help my fellow group members and peers. All in all this presentation had its difficulties but it would be a valuable experience for any future assignments in which I would have to work with a group.

The audience for this project was of course meant to be the professor and my peers that would be both listening and viewing the presentation. Of course, since not everyone would be knowledgeable on the topic we research, we made it as clear and concise as possible without sacrificing details. As for the genre for this paper,  it is a non-fiction scientific report conducted by multiple people. The topic we decided upon was the removal of electronic sound. From the title, such a feat sounds both vague and complicated as ‘electronic’ can refer to the beeps of an alarm clock to the music played from computers. However, we focused on the interference of sound when it comes to audio and communication equipment. Essentially random signals interfered with the inputted and received signals. The purpose of finding a solution to this problem of signal interference, which was that it can cause the system to fail and in turn can cause accidents. For this reason, finding a solution to such a problem would be very beneficial to many important systems that could face it. We decided to utilize an informative tone since this was of course a scientific paper and we were going to present this in class. Our purpose in writing this assignment was of course to inform our peers and others about the possibility of a solution to the problem of electronic noise. In short, we choose this topic not only to present it in front of my classmates but also to help others.

Besides the context of the presentation, I would like to share my own experience, both my difficulties and what I found simple. The presentation as a whole was not all that simple but it was not very difficult either. Certain aspects of the presentation such as the initial stages were at times confusing and challenging, such as deciding on a topic and how we should go about such a topic. This was of course mainly because we had to work online for this project and could not offer in-person clarification. The later stages of editing and peer revision were much smoother as our overall group cohesion became much better. This is due to in no small part the fact that had grown accustomed to the type of environment we worked in, online, and had come up with ways to bypass this. Finally, the presentation of the project itself also felt simple because, by the time we were ready to present, we were confident about what we wrote. We had taken a lot of time to make sure our project was understandable to each other and the people who would be viewing it. While this was the first time I had attempted this type of paper in a group, I believe we did well. In conclusion, while it was my first time doing this sort of assignment with others I believe it will help me in future group-based projects.
